False Morels
This image of a localized forest floor scene is appealing as well as interesting. These strange looking fungi are likely members of the genus Gyromitra, possibly either the Umbrella False Morel (G. californica) or the Hooded False Morel (G. infula). In any case they likely contain monomethylhydrazine (MMH). What's that you say? - a highly volatile rocket fuel and you don't want to eat it.
