Kelso Dune Morning
On spring evenings, Birdcage Evening Primrose
(Oenothera deltoides) pop open on the high Mojave
desert dunes. Before closing again in the early
morning, the desert may appear as if strewn with
tissue paper. The plant's stems radiate out flat from
a central point but curve upward when the plant dries
to form a "birdcage." Note the first rays of dawn are
just kissing the tufts of grass.
